DUPR Advanced Rec

These recreational events are for players with a rating of 3.5+ in DUPR and a rating reliability score of 60%+ in DUPR.

The idea is to provide players with easy access to low-cost regional advanced recreational events that are actually properly skill-bracketed using DUPR, instead of using self-ratings. Your access to register for these regional events will only depend on your rating in DUPR, not on who you know!

These advanced recreational events are fully automated by using the DuprPlay™ event software which handles time-keeping, assigning byes to players based on their Stamina preferences, and informing each player if they have a bye, or informing them of their assigned court, partner, opponents, and serve/receive/side details.

In each game period:

  • To be social, you will be assigned a new partner in a way that minimizes repeated partnerships, so you can eventually partner with every player
  • To create competitive games, you and your assigned partner will then be assigned to oppose a team that has an average rating that is close to the average rating of your team

Event Details

  • The first 15 mins will be for check-in and warm-up
  • There will be a series of game periods after the warm-up
  • Each game period will be 15 minutes long, announced with a loud timer sound
  • Scores will not be submitted to DUPR (it is just for FUN)
  • For each game period:
    • The system will assign byes fairly, but only when necessary based on court availability or based on personal player Stamina preferences
    • Your partner will be chosen randomly from the set of players who you have partnered with the least so far in the event
    • The resulting teams will be ranked in descending order based on the average rating of the partners in DUPR
    • The top two ranked teams will play on court 1, the next two ranked teams will play on court 2, etc.
    • For each court, the teams will be randomly assigned as Team 1 or Team 2
    • Team 1 will serve from the outside and Team 2 will receive at the inside
    • Each player will receive an email either telling them that they have a bye, or telling them their court and team assignment
    • Play until the timer runs out using any format agreed upon by the players on that court
    • If a rally is in progress when the timer runs out, keep playing that rally
    • A tie is OK, so there is no need to play a tie breaker
  • Recommended game formats:
    • Rally scoring, switch sides at 13, and consider also changing positions with your partner at 13 for variety
    • Traditional “side-out” scoring, switch sides at 6
